Case Study: Front Yard Desert Landscape Conversion in Anthem, Henderson
Maintaining a lush, green lawn in the Nevada heat is an uphill battle. For many homeowners, the constant watering and upkeep simply aren’t worth the cost. That was exactly the case for our recent clients in the beautiful Anthem community of Henderson.
They were dealing with heat-burnt, dying grass that dragged down their property’s curb appeal. They reached out to Chicago Landscape of Las Vegas for a complete desert landscape conversion in Henderson. The goal was to remove the struggling turf, build a stunning multi-level paver walkway, and install a water-smart desert oasis that qualified for local rebates.
Here is a step-by-step look at how we transformed this property, ultimately reducing their outdoor water usage by over 70%.
Phase 1: Demolition and Turf Removal
The first step of any successful water-smart conversion is a clean slate. Our landscaping crews arrived to carefully excavate the dead and dying grass from the entire front yard.

Once the turf was removed, we ripped out the old, inefficient sprinkler system. We then graded and prepared the raw dirt foundation, specifically mapping out the elevation changes required for the new hardscape features.
After removing the old turf and irrigation, the dirt sub-base is precisely graded and prepared for the foundation of the new multi-level paver walkway.
Phase 2: Custom Paver Walkway and Steps
A major focal point of this desert landscape conversion in Henderson was the brand-new entryway. The property featured a natural slope, which gave us the perfect opportunity to design a dynamic, multi-level paver walkway.
Our master masons built a staggered retaining and step system using premium, heat-resistant landscape pavers. This not only created a safer, more accessible path to the front door but also added massive architectural interest to the home’s exterior.

Phase 3: Desert Flora, Landscape Rock, and Drainage
With the hardscaping in place, we moved on to the “softscape.” We installed a brand-new, high-efficiency drip irrigation system designed specifically for desert flora. We then planted a curated selection of drought-tolerant trees, bushes, and structural vegetation across multiple zones in the front yard.
To finish the look, the remaining open areas—where the grass used to be—were covered with premium landscape rock. We also designed specific drainage beds utilizing larger river rocks to manage runoff during seasonal desert rainstorms.

This project was a massive success. The final transformation gave the home a high-end, modern aesthetic while practically eliminating yard maintenance. Even better, this design utilizes 70% less water than the previous grass lawn.
